WhirlieJig is a new three piece ceilidh band based in and around Hamilton. Originally formed to provide music for friend’s functions in Hamilton, East Kilbride, Biggar and Motherwell, the band have decided to unleash themselves onto the public at large. The band consists of Graham Walker, Colin MacLeod and Anne MacLeod. Our main aim is to make your function go with a swing without breaking the bank.
Graham has been playing violin for longer than he cares to remember and has been on the fiddle ever since. He is currently employed by South Lanarkshire Council teaching violin in primary and secondary schools and also tutors at the South Lanarkshire Orchestral Society. A fairly recent convert to the joys of folk music, Graham can often be found at Stonehouse Folk Club on a Friday evening, listening to the acts or joining in with a session.
Colin MacLeodColin MacLeod is the fiddler and caller in the band. He first started calling ceilidh dances at school when he started teaching and has been doing it ever since. He learned fiddle at Glasgow Fiddle Workshop and has played with various groups, Fiddle Force, Taransay Fiddlers and as a session fiddler all around Scotland.
Anne plays piano and tin whistle in the band. She was originally trained as a classical musician and studied oboe and piano at music college. Anne has always been enthusiastic about all kinds of music but became particularly interested in folk music after meeting fellow band member and husband Colin.
